The Ruffles NBA Celebrity All-Star game took place today in Indiana. The head coaches were ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe. Yesterday, Smith was practicing with the celebrities. A former basketball player, Smith did not hesitate to get the chance to put up some shots. But, during that episode, Smith slipped and fell, which caused an ankle injury. This episode has been the subject to trolls from fans.
During practice, Stephen A. Smith started slowly jogging towards the left corner of the court to retrieve the ball. That is when he slipped and fell. Smith was slow to get up and needed assistance from people near him. He eventually got back to his feet and continued shooting. The clip of his slip and fall has been shared on social media many times, prompting fans to get a first-hand look at the incident.
As revealed later on First Take, Smith said he slipped on sweat. He also said that despite initially not feeling any pain, he was rushed to the hospital at night. Smith endured a small ankle injury which meant his foot was put in a brace. He thanked the NBA’s medical staff who attended to his call for help late at night.
Stephen A. Smith continued to coach the Celebrity All-Star game. From game footage, it seems Smith was out of the brace and moving fine. He wore sneakers instead of his usual formal shoes on the court. Stephen A. Smith’s team lost the game to Team Shannon 91-100.
