Stephen Curry at the center of bold 2022 NBA Finals bet between California, Massachusetts Governors prior to Game 3
Stephen Curry at the center of a bet between governors
You cannot take your eyes of the drama in this fiery bout between the Champions of the East and the Conquerors of the West, so much so that Stephen Curry has become involved in a bet between the Governors of Massachusetts and California. Steph was at his dazzling best in Game 3, however his heroics were not enough to snatch victory from the Celtics. At home for the first time in the series, the Celtics pulled away from the Warriors for a 116-100 victory in Game 3 on Wednesday night. Boston, up 2-1 in the Finals, withstood a third-quarter charge from Golden State, and put the game away in the fourth quarter.
Stephen Curry scored a game-high 31 points on 54.6% shooting and had 15 in the third quarter as the Warriors tried their best to nudge past. Klay Thompson had his best game of the series, adding 25 points, not enough to steal a win at the Garden. Jaylen Brown had 27 points, as Jayson Tatum added 26 while Marcus Smart dropped 24 points, as the trio combined for 77 points to lead the Celtics, who led by as many as 18 points in the first half.

“How about a bet?” Massachusetts Governor issues a bet involving Stephen Curry’s Warriors with his California counterpart
If any defense in the league was celebrating Stephen Curry being past his prime, you will be in drowned by his 3’s, as the 2-time MVP is showing no signs of stopping. The 3-point God descends on the court and mesmerizes us with his divine shooting ability, setting an NBA Finals record in the 1st quarter of Game 1 itself. Boston have not been able to contain the ‘Baby Faced Assassin’ as he averages 32 PPG in the NBA Finals. With the Celtics gunning for a record 18th Title and the Warriors rallying for their fourth within a decade, the Governors have taken rivalry to another level.
Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker called out his California counterpart, Governor Gavin Newsom, right before Game 3 of the Warriors-Celtics matchup. Baker proposed a bold bet to Newsom that will require the loser to dawn a jersey of the opposing team. It didn’t take long before Newsom responded, and naturally, he just had to call the bet. The California governor also made sure to notify Baker that Warriors superstar Stephen Curry would be heavily involved in the deal:
Boston took home Game 3, giving Charlie Baker bragging rights against Gavin Newsom for now, with Game 4 being played at Boston again. However, it will be unbelievably foolish to count Stephen Curry and co. out of this contest. Game 4 is set for Friday night in Boston, with the Celtics looking to get to within one win of a title. Boston improved to 7-0 following a loss on Wednesday in Game 3.
Golden State, meanwhile, is currently 5-0 after a loss in these playoffs, winning those five games by an average of 15.4 points. That includes the 19-point win in Game 2 of these NBA Finals. Other promising news for the Warriors? They have won at least one road game in their past 26 playoff series.
Despite Curry’s noticeable limp after the play with Horford, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said it was not why he pulled him from the game in the closing minutes. Steph and company are not one’s to give as they will look to feed on the hatred dished out by the Boston fans at the Garden. With Klay in his rhythm and Poole growing slowly in the series, the Warriors will give the Celtics a run for their money, so will the Governors of Massachusetts and California as they cheer on their respective teams on their path to glory.
