LaVar Ball has a history of dishing out unpopular opinions. One of his most controversial statements came when he claimed his eldest son, Lonzo Ball, was better than the greatest shooter in the league, Stephen Curry. This sparked numerous conversations, and even Curry, known as ‘The Chef,’ has now shared his opinion about the statement.
During a conversation with Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer, Curry remarked that LaVar’s statement was an expression of the Ball family patriarch’s delusion. Curry refused to give LaVar attention, anticipating that the latter would attempt to create controversy.
Curry mentioned that he didn’t know LaVar personally and that the Ball family was unique. He indicated that there was little chance of LaVar stirring up drama from the situation. This is what Curry said:
I don't know him at all. They (the Ball family) are obviously unique and they are doing it their way. You can say a lot about the power in that… And I think Lonzo wore my shoes. Hey, that's somebody who wants to wear my shoes!Steph Curry via Charlotte Observer.
Are Stephen Curry and Lonzo Ball even comparable?
According to LaVar Ball, Lonzo Ball was a better player than Stephen Curry. So, he must have all the accolades to back them up. Stephen Curry is not only a two-time league MVP but is also the only unanimous MVP in the league’s history. Curry is the greatest shooter in the history of the league and has four championships to back up his claim of being one of the best players in the modern era.
Whereas, Lonzo hasn’t played a game since tearing his meniscus in 2022 and is in rehabilitation. He was the No.2 overall pick in the 2017 draft and was a key part of the Anthony Davis trade to the Lakers. He was selected before players like Jayson Tatum and De’Aaron Fox. While Lonzo isn’t a terrible player, he certainly isn’t of the caliber that his father, LaVar, boasts him to be.
