“I don’t rank my performances” Stephen Curry delivers a cold-hearted message after a 43-point masterpiece in Game 4
Stephen Curry
Steve Kerr’s main man-Stephen Curry scored big in a very crucial game 4 to bring his team back on level terms. But even after the 43-point master piece, he seemed unfazed by his heroics, as Golden State once again leveled the 2022 NBA finals series and take the series back to San Francisco.
Golden State Warriors were struggling for some time against Boston Celtics, but Game 4 wasn’t the time to endure pressure. After Ime Udoka’s Celtics thumping game-3 win, Golden State needed to put up a strong performance and win game 4 to have some chance in the 2022 NBA Finals. Stephen Curry knew exactly what he had to do and delivered exactly what was needed to snatch a win for the team. Curry scored massive 43 points in the game and grabbed 10 rebounds. His performance was worthy of high praises and most importantly silencing the “Nay-Sayers”. But 3-point king remained grounded and gave a cold-hearted reply to his performance.
If anyone knows Curry better, the pictures of Steph sitting on the bench at the closing moments of Game 3 were an indication of what’s coming in the next game. His glazing eyes made his intention known to the world and still, he went on to dominate the game single-handedly (mostly)
Red hot Stephen Curry smoking the Gardens
Back in December 2021, Stephen Curry lit up the Madison Square Garden when he passed Ray Allen for most 3-pointers made in the regular season. Now it was TD Garden where Steph shrewdly scored over every Boston Celtics defender from various ranges. His 43 score marked his 2nd best scoring performance in NBA finals games and proved vital for the Warriors.
With enormous performance, Steph registered the Warriors’ 100th playoff Win, after his insertion in the league. Also, he became 2nd oldest to score 40+ points and 10+ rebounds in NBA finals with LeBron James doing the same earlier in 2020. Also Baby faced assassin became only the 3rd point guard to have a double-double with 40+ points in the Finals.
This was Curry’s thirteenth 30+ point game, and he equaled great Kobe Bryant’s tally. Warriors as a team also made a record of 27 road game victories behind Steph’s performance, an accomplishment not many teams could achieve in NBA History. Still, 2-time MVP Steph remained calm about his dominance on the court.
In a post-game interview, Steph said, “You want it so bad, you kind of get away a little bit, and everybody feels a little bit of pressure, and it can go the opposite way I wanted to leverage that to the positive direction for us.” And he ended his comment with a strong reply “I dont rank my performances though. Just win the game.”
Klay Thompson did support his leader well with some important buckets and 18 points in the game, but it was Andrew Wiggins who had a huge double-double game to break the Celtics’ resilience in the game. Former no. 1 pick scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the game.
Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown did score 23 and 21 points in the game respectively, and Marcus Smart added 18 points with some efficient shooting but that wasn’t enough for Ime Udoka’s team to stop the free-scoring Warriors. Golden State rather outscored Celtics 17-3 in the final 5 minutes of the game, where they struggled in the previous 3 games.
Golden State Warriors will hope to carry the momentum back to San Francisco, as both teams are just 2 wins away from the Championship. If the Warriors can give a similar performance at Chase center, they will be very much certain to win their 7th title for the franchise and become 3rd most successful NBA team in the league.
