“The hatred, the racism, the adversity….” Stephen Curry details upon the hard-fought legacy left behind by Bill Russell
Stephen Curry and Bill Russell
Stephen Curry recently paid tribute to Bill Russell by talking about his hard-earned and hard-fought legacy. The basketball world lost the legend on 31 July 2022 (aged 88) he wasn’t just an athlete or an All-Time great of the game. He was a legend on and off the court. He was the greatest winner that sports has ever known and he also won in his life by bringing in changes and making a difference for the betterment of everyone. Bill Russell was an important part of the African-American society as he was also known for being a powerful civil leader who paved the way for others both on and off the court. Stephen Curry knowing all these greats of MR. 11 Rings gave him his respect as he really has achieved a lot of unthinkable greats back in the days when it wasn’t easy at all.
Stephen Curry didn’t really open up about Bill Russell’s passing earlier. But he paid tribute to him via his personal Instagram handle by posting a picture of his with him where he also wrote: “Trailblazer. Icon. Greatest Champ in basketball. Made the world on and off the court a better place. Thank you and rest easy! 11” But recently, in an interview of his with Rayna Reid Rayford of Essence at his seventh annual basketball camp for 26 elite high school basketball athletes in California at the Olympic Club. Stephen Curry talked about the Celtics legend and his impact not only on the game but also on society while delivering his tribute to the 11-time NBA Champion who has a hard-to-match resume and has really made the world a better place to live.

Stephen Curry on Bill Russell’s impact on the game and society
Stephen Curry talking about the impact of Bill Russell’s legacy quoted: “Neither one of us is sitting here if he didn’t do what he did in his career, not just because of what he did in basketball, but in terms of the times that he played in, the hatred, the racism, the adversity, facing it his entire life, and especially during his playing days. Had he not been the man that he was and pushed through everything he had to, I don’t know if the NBA is in the space it is. It had trickle down effects to the rest of the basketball world. So, we’re all eternally grateful for who he is and was, what he meant to the game, and what he meant to society.”
Stephen Curry is very right with his words. As Bill Russell really played some elite level of basketball back in the days when America wasn’t the same place it is today. The legend won on the court and also off the court while fighting against racism for equality and social justice. He really paved the way for Black athletes and others who were facing many problems by making efforts to bring equality. Like the Chef already said, we all should be grateful to Bill Russell for the efforts he made while getting the job done on the hardwood and also for the society by making the world a better place to live. He spent his life being a strong and great voice for everything and anything he wanted to. For his greats and contribution to the society, he also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
