Stephen Curry honors Mike Breen by giving him first pair of Curry 2 Bang Bang shoe
Warriors superstar gave Mike Breen the first pair of Curry 2 Bang Bang shoe, to honor his double bang call in 2016 regular season game.
Stephen Curry gifting Mike Breen first pair of Curry 2 Bang Bang
On February 27, 2016, Stephen Curry played one of the best regular season games for the Golden State Warriors. It was also the best season the Warriors had in their franchise history. Recently, the Warriors star released his Curry 2 Bang Bang PE Retro shoe and he gifted the first copy to none other than legendary game announcer Mike Breen. The reason behind Steph giving the first copy to Breen goes back to seven years ago, in the same game.
During that season, the Warriors were chasing the 73 regular season win record, and for that, they needed the win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. When the Dubs fell behind they made a comeback and forced overtime. It was in overtime, that Curry made a half-court shot to break the tie. As the shot went in, Breen called “bang” and a few seconds later, he called “bang” again. “7 years to the day… a moment I’ll never forget. It’s only right the king of the “Baaang Baaang!!” got the first pair!! Mike Breen, thanks for everything you’ve done for our amazing game. We had to bring these back for y’all,” Curry wrote in his Twitter post.
While Breen immortalized Curry’s game with two bang-bang calls, it was only suitable to give the legend his credit and honor that was due. Steph also delivered the shoes to the NBA announcer in person, which also included a video message for him. “Seven years ago, you had one of the greatest calls in regular-season NBA history, the double bang,” Curry told Breen in a video of the shoe delivery. “So, I wanted to give you this as a token of appreciation for that moment,” he added.
Stephen Curry says he needs triple bang call from Mike Breen
While Curry appreciated his contribution to the game and his legendary calls on the court, he also wanted Breen to know that he wanted a triple “bang” call. “You’re the first person to get these in hand,” Curry told Breen. “So, we got a double bang call in 2016. Before it’s all said and done, I think I need a triple bang call from Mr. Mike Breen himself,” Curry added. The kind of player Curry is, it might not be a surprise that someday, the legendary Breen might be forced to call it.
Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy, and Mark Jackson are exclusively called for games that are featured on the biggest stages. While they announce selected games in the regular season, the trio is always fixed for the NBA Finals, when the game is on the biggest stage. There is probably none who is better to call NBA Finals than this trio.
