“Will never forgive you…” – Stephen Curry leaves Lonnie Walker IV a REVENGEFUL autograph
How Lonnie Walker IV earned Stephen Curry’s respect and wrath with his Game 4 heroics
Stephen Curry Gifts Lonnie Walker IV a Signed Jersey
Lonnie Walker IV has been a revelation for the Los Angeles Lakers in these playoffs. The young guard has been a key factor in the Lakers’ run to the Western Conference Finals, where they will face the Denver Nuggets.
But Walker’s most memorable performance came in Game 4 of the second round series against the Golden State Warriors, when he scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Lakers to a comeback win. Walker hit five three-pointers in the final 12 minutes, including a dagger with just over a minute left that put the Lakers up by four.
Walker’s clutch shooting ruined a historic night for Stephen Curry, who had 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for his postseason triple-double. Curry tried to save the Warriors in the last minute, but his potential game-tying three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left bounced off the rim.
The loss was devastating for the Warriors, as they fell behind in the series with a 1-3 and were put on the brink of elimination by the Lakers. The Warriors lost their edge and their confidence, and the Lakers won in Game 6 to end their season.
Curry, however, did not let Walker’s performance go unnoticed. After the series was over, he sent Walker a signed jersey with a witty and playful message: “To Lonnie, keep building. All love. Will never forgive you for Game 4…”
Walker posted a photo of the gift on his Instagram account, along with a caption that read: “Losses turn into pain, then they become advantages”- @getbenny.”
How Lonnie Walker IV became a vital part of the Lakers’ success
Walker’s emergence as a reliable scorer and defender for the Lakers was not expected when he joined them in February. He was traded from the San Antonio Spurs to the Lakers.
Walker had shown some promise in his first four seasons with the Spurs, but he was inconsistent and struggled to find his niche in Gregg Popovich’s system. He averaged 9.4 points per game in his career with San Antonio, shooting 41.4% from the field and 34.3% from three-point range.
In Los Angeles, however, Walker found a new opportunity and a new confidence. He quickly earned the trust of coach Darvin Ham and superstar teammates LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who praised his energy, athleticism and shooting ability.
Walker’s Game 4 performance was his best yet, as he single-handedly carried the Lakers’ offense in the fourth quarter. He showed no fear or hesitation as he took and made big shots in crunch time. He has also given Curry a reason to remember him – and perhaps seek revenge – in their future matchups.
