“She needs to be home, she needs to be safe”: Stephen Curry makes honest admission on Brittney Griner’s ‘wrongful detainment’ in Russia

Brittney Griner and Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry has joined the list of voices against the wrongful detainment of Brittney Griner and wants her back home in the United States of America as soon as possible. In February, Brittney Griner was detained at the Moscow airport as the Russian officials say they found vape cartridges containing hashish oil in her luggage. She now is facing drug smuggling charges which can get her a maximum of 10 years of imprisonment in Russia. Her pre-trial was also postponed and now many believe she is a “political prisoner” held by Russia who will be used for some benefits or a good exchange with the United States of America. The WNBA has made several efforts to spread awareness about it and get their star center back and now even NBA players have joined hands with them and want their colleagues back as enough is enough.

Stephen Curry has joined players like LeBron James, CJ McCollum, and the whole Boston Celtics team to put up efforts for the release of wrongfully detained Brittney Griner. As in his recent interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, he discussed the ongoing situation and even talked about how he’s a part of it. Many fans have claimed that if it wasn’t Brittney Griner and was LeBron James or the Chef himself. The White House would have been quick with their actions and they would have been back soon. Unlike the WNBA star who’s waiting for her release for more than 110 days and still, nothing can be said.

Stephen Curry first answering the question of Malika Andrews of him or LeBron James being in the place of Brittney Griner quoted: “I think there’s something to that. I think it’s obviously from the time we heard about the story unfold and what she was going through and where she was at. That’s helplessness almost like what do you do to get her back home safely and quickly and now we are over 110 days I think she has been wrongfully detained.”

Stephen Curry further discussed the whole situation Brittney Griner is stuck in and quoted: “It is an unfortunate situation, it’s a tragedy. She needs to be home. She needs to be safe. She needs to be with her family. She needs to be back home I think if we compare to what with ….. her situation with somebody else like I don’t like to play that game. Right now, it’s just about getting her home and everybody joining that effort, joining that front to make sure she’s talked about… All hands are on deck, and all resources are thrown at getting her home as soon as possible. I know those efforts are ongoing. and hopefully, there’ll be some positive end to this story.”

Stephen Curry also wants the WNBA star back as soon as possible and isn’t interested in entertaining any of those questions by the fans. Because those aren’t important but getting Brittney Griner back home is. He used his platform in a very correct way. As he used his NBA 2022 Finals interview (Warriors vs Celtics tied at 1-1) to spread the message and also wished for a positive ending like everyone else.
