This year’s NBA offseason has been very eventful. One of the most shocking news to come out of this offseason was that the Golden State Warriors traded for long-time rival Chris Paul, exchanging him for Jordan Poole, who was shaping up to be one of the best young players in the league.
The move was shocking for a number of reasons. Firstly, CP3 was a long-time rival of the Warriors; secondly, he and Stephen Curry didn’t have the best relationship; and thirdly, the difference in playstyles might make it hard for the team to enter the season all guns blazing.
Stephen Curry, who has been the franchise cornerstone of the Warriors ever since they chose him over Monte Ellis, is one of the best players in the league and is still going strong at the age of 35. Talking about playing with his long-time rival in the same jersey, Steph said it’s all coming full circle when it comes to playing with Paul. He hopes he gets the opportunity to be on the court with him at the same time and he can’t wait to play with Paul, who will be going into his 18th year.
“It’s a beautiful thing about basketball, you can’t write these narratives,” Curry said. “To go full circle, we’ve had a lot of battles over the years. He’s in Year 18, I’m going into Year 15, it’s amazing we have an opportunity to play together, and hopefully win at the highest level. He’s super competitive, and so am I.”
Stephen Curry sends a warning to the league
The greatest shooter of all time, Stephen Curry, has been going strong and is playing at an MVP-caliber level. His only aim 15 years into his career is to win championships, not individual awards. He has already led his Warriors to four championships and hopes to add more in the upcoming seasons.
Steph, even 15 years in, doesn’t show signs of stopping anytime soon. Just this past season, he averaged just shy of 30 points per game to help his team, which was struggling to reach the playoffs after a tough regular season. While they ultimately lost to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, they still showed signs that they could be the team to win another championship.
In an appearance on PBS Newshour, Steph stated that he still thinks he is in the prime of his career and hopes to win more championships to further solidify his already incredible legacy. While Steph might still be in his prime years, the same can’t be said about his Big3 counterparts, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. So, they don’t have a big window to win championships, making the next season a great chance for the Warriors to get a 5th ring and make a case for themselves as the best team of all time.
