LeBron James and Stephen Curry are two of the game’s all-time greats. Both of them have won multiple championships and MVP awards. While James is the all-time leading scorer in the NBA, Curry is the all-time leader in three-pointers made. Curry and James have faced each other numerous times during their careers and each and every one of those matchups has been a treat to watch.

They met each other in the finals between 2015 to 2018 with Curry having the edge, winning 3 out of 4. They locked horns once again last season in the second round of the Western Conference Playoffs where James and the Los Angeles Lakers eliminated Curry and his Golden State Warriors in 6 games. In a recent interview with American sports broadcaster Robin Lundberg, Curry was asked to describe his relationship with James in one word. Curry called it ‘complex’.

“It’s complex, because you go from playing in a tournament and him coming to watch, to me coming in as a young rookie in the league and him giving me advice on how to get through some of the early struggles that I was going to go through as a player, to the four Finals appearances in a row playing against each other, to even last year, playing in the playoffs again,” said Curry. “He’s a great dude, great friend, great competitor. It’s amazing to go back and look at where it all started.”

It’s great to see the respect Curry has for James despite them being rivals on the court. James too has spoken of his fondness for Curry on multiple occasions, even going to the extent of saying on his HBO show ‘The Shop’, that if there’s one player that he would like to play with in today’s game it would be Curry for sure. Interestingly, James and Curry were born at the same hospital in Akron, Ohio, just four years apart.

LeBron James has been a fan of Stephen Curry’s right from his college days at Davidson. Back in April 2022, Curry sat down with Draymond Green on his podcast and revealed details about their first encounter. “He gave me a jersey when I was in college at Davidson, and I still have it on the wall at my parents’ house back in Charlotte. He wrote on it, ‘To the king of basketball in North Carolina,” said Curry.

On the court, James and Curry first played each other in a regular season encounter back in 2009 in a game between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. James got the better of Curry as the Cavs defeated the Warriors. Who knew back then that a decade later that these two superstars would be intense rivals on the court but great friends off of it.

After winning his first-ever NBA championship back in 2015, Curry became one of the most feared players in the league. Curry and the Warriors were looking to repeat the championship run in 2016, but James and the Cavaliers had other plans. They became the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit and win the NBA Championship.
