Stephen Curry and LeBron James are one of the biggest rivals in the Modern NBA. They have met in the NBA Finals four times and are now going head-to-head against each other in the Western Conference Semifinals. But they too have a story dating back to Stephen Curry’s college days. When he wasn’t a rival but a fan of Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James. And, behind the rivalry, they still have a lot of love and respect for each other.
Stephen Curry has always been the best shooter on the court. Even during his college days. And, LeBron James already knew what the league was going to have to deal with in some years. As he once went down to Davidson to watch Stephen Curry ball out and drill some three-pointers. Not many college players get this type of respect from the NBA players, especially King James who was “The Chosen One” even before getting drafted. But Stephen Curry is also one of a kind and had Bron hyped up on the sidelines.
Stephen Curry once reflected on this moment on the podcast of, “The Old Man and The Three.” And, while doing so he quoted: “I wish y’all could have been on our team bus and hear these rumors of ‘hey, I think Bron is coming to the game.’ Like he playing Detroit later… Somebody called the Davidson staff for some tickets for Bron to sit in our section… This was probably his fourth year in the league. And so nobody believed he’d show up.”
Further, Stephen Curry added: “And then we get to Ford Field and lo and behold, like right when the tip-off’s coming, here comes Rich, Bron he had like five or six people. He’s there, just being a fan and watching us play. So to think fast forward, you know, six years later, we’d be playing against each other in The Finals and all that. It’s kind of – It’s just a wild experience.”
Stephen Curry has really been on a complete rollercoaster journey throughout his career. As from being doubted as a point guard with weak ankles to becoming one of the best point guards ever in the league’s history. And, earning the title of “Greatest Shooter of All-Time”, he has done it all. He has also gone from being a fanboy of LeBron James to being in the same GOAT conversations of his as a comparison.
Stephen Curry reveals having a signed LeBron James jersey in his bedroom
Stephen Curry has a signed LeBron James jersey in his bedroom at his dad’s house And, he himself revealed this in the same episode.
He quoted: “I still have in my dad’s house in North Carolina, I still have a Bron jersey on the wall, in my bedroom. He signed it. The next year he came to Charlotte and I went to the game and he signed a jersey. And it’s like ‘the greatest shooter in North Carolina’ or something like that. He wrote and signed it and I kept it. He gave me the shoes after the game and all that. So it’s still wild just to think about.”
These memories are surely fresh with Stephen Curry. Without rivalries, competition, and competitiveness, all players are a fan of the other player. But the relationship between The Chef and The King is really special as they are one of the greatest players ever to step on a basketball court and are still carrying their teams while balling out.
