Of late, the hottest topic of discussion is where LeBron James will play next season. The face of the NBA is reportedly looking at playing where his son will play.
Bronny James is eligible for the upcoming 2024 draft. Something spectacular will transpire around those days. LeBron James’ player option deadline is just after the draft. All the discussions suggest James Sr. will sign with the team that drafts his son. Former NBA player Austin Rivers had a bold take on this scenario comparing his own career. But another former player, Stephen Jackson, reminded him that the two are not the same.
Austin Rivers was on the show NBA Today hosted by ESPN. On the show he mentioned that he would not want Bronny to go through what he went through in his career. Rivers is the son of legendary coach and former player Doc Rivers. Nonetheless, Jackson shot back at Rivers on his Instagram account, saying;
And your daddy not Lebron. Shut up
The comment is self-explanatory. LeBron James and Doc Rivers have different careers. The shadow of Doc Rivers may have hurt Austin’s career in some ways. But according to Jackson, James Sr. has a different legacy.
What Jackson meant was that LeBron James will be playing with his son. That will have a different impact on James Jr.’s career. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar playing with his son will play out a different narrative than that of the Rivers’. He will ensure Bronny develops his own narrative while they are playing together.
Moreover, this is LeBron James we are talking about. He knows all too well that his career should not undermine what Bronny will do in his. Jackson’s comment implies that Austin Rivers should not compare his father’s legacy, especially with that built by LeBron James.
Stephen Jackson believes LeBron James’ situation should not be compared
LeBron James is a storyline on his own. He was drafted out of high school. He has surpassed all expectations set on him since. Consequently, James’ drive and longevity have been the story of his career. James Sr. is a constant in the GOAT debate. That itself speaks volumes of his achievements.
Jackson believes James Sr.’s career is such that the expectations on his son will not be as severe as it was with Austin Rivers. All things considered, no one will be able to match his career. Comparatively, Bronny will not be asked a lot by the fans and the media.
Bronny James’s draft status is being watched across the basketball universe. Correspondingly, rumors are swirling that this might be James’ last season as a Laker.
