“They got anything they wanted,” Steve Kerr reacts to disappointing loss to Wembanyama-less Spurs side at home

The Golden State Warriors are not enjoying their best campaign at the moment. For a team that has won four titles in the last nine years, their current performance has fallen short of expectations, landing them as the Western Conference’s 10th seed. Now, Steve Kerr also has a reason for his team’s loss to the last seed, the San Antonio Spurs.

During a Saturday night 126-113 loss at Chase Center against the San Antonio Spurs, both the Warriors and the Spurs were without Stephen Curry and Victor Wembanyama. However, the Warriors’ defense was the primary factor in their defeat, which Kerr is aware of. However, he was powerless to address the error.

Steve Kerr said at the post-game interview:

Our defense was fine but as the game went on, we had multiple breakdowns. You got to stop something, and I thought they got anything they wanted all night.

In addition, Kerr brought up the Spurs’ 17 three-pointers despite their poor three-point shooting performance.

Before the game, Kerr had complete faith in his defense. However, as the game progressed, several breakdowns resulted in a terrible defeat to the Spurs.

Steve Kerr, the highest-paid NBA head coach has been struggling

A two-year, the Golden State Warriors and head coach Steve Kerr have agreed to a $35 million contract extension. With the agreement, which expires after the 2025–2026 season, Kerr will be the highest-paid head coach in NBA history. However, today’s game made some wonder if it was beneficial to extend Kerr’s contract. His recent games demonstrate that he has not been delivering.

The Warrior’s failure can be attributed to numerous factors. Kerr just made one of them known in the post-game interview that took place today, when he spoke about the team defense. In addition, there have been numerous adjustments made to the players’ starting lineup rotation. Kerr benched one of the top players on the Warriors, Klay Thompson, in favor of Chris Paul in the starting lineup for today’s game.

On Monday, the Warriors and Spurs will play with each other again. Yet, Curry’s ankle condition will prevent him from playing. Since the Spurs will be playing at home, Kerr will look to his team to perform well.
