The Golden State Warriors played against the Washington Wizards on Tuesday. The Warrior’s forward Andrew Wiggins did not participate in the game due to personal matters. Reportedly, his absence is not limited to just one game. The player is likely to miss multiple games.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr talked about the reason behind Wiggins’ absence and about the absence being indefinite. He said on 95.7 The Game:
Wiggs is a private person and he's asked to keep it private and we're going to honor that.Steve Kerr said
He also talked about being uncertain about the duration of the player’s return. A similar situation occurred with Wiggins last year. The player missed 25 games while dealing with a family matter. At the time as well proper reason for the forward’s absence was not revealed, even after his return. After supporting the champion last year, fans are not happy to see similar news.
The Warriors have been struggling for this entire season. In the last few games, their performance has changed marginally. To maintain the winning streak and qualify for the playoffs, the team needs all the players to be healthy and present. That is the reason behind Warriors fans’ disappointment with Wiggins’ absence.
Andrew Wiggins was the leading candidate for a potential trade
Wiggins was an essential part of the Warriors 2022 championship year. The forward certainly had an impact on the court that led the team to get wins. But since then, the player has not been able to live up to the fans’ expectations.
Last season, the athlete missed 25 games and had an average performance for the rest of the season. Similarly, this season, he has not contributed much to the team. As a result of that, ahead of the trade deadline this month, Wiggins was the front-runner to get traded from the team.
There were rumors of the trade for two Warriors stars. Wiggins and a four-time champion for the team Klay Thompson. As Thompson was having contract issues with the team, chances for his trade started rising. But after the deadline, both the players did not result in any changes and stayed with the team.
