Golden State Warriors Head coach Steve Kerr, talking on NBA Today ESPN, gave insights on Chris Paul’s role in the team. The highly acclaimed point guard, CP3, in his illustrious 18-season career, has never started off the bench.
Paul has played 1214 regular season games and 149 playoff games, although not winning a single championship. His chances of winning one have increased as he joins the Warriors, who have been four-time champions in the last nine years, but his chances of starting the lineup have taken a back seat.
Innumerable people have speculated that he does not fit into the Warriors. He was brought in exchange for Jordan Poole from the Washington Wizards, but ever since then, he has been written off by the Warriors fans as he has shown numerous times that he does not want to start off the bench. Kerr, though, is optimistic about him being on the team.
“I think that’ll be a case where you get three weeks of training camp before that first game…We’ll just look at all kinds of different combinations. The main thing is we know all those guys are going to play a lot of minutes. But the luxury of having Chris Paul to add to this group that we’ve been lucky enough to have for a decade… pretty remarkable.” Kerr said this when asked how he feels about adding Paul to the team.

How would the dynamics between the players at the Golden State Warriors work out?

Ever since the Poole-Paul trade was finalized, NBA fans have speculated that he does not have a place on the team. Players like Draymond Green have admitted to not quashing the beef completely with the veteran. Kerr, here, has acted as a binder for the team, speaking rays of optimism at every opportunity he gets. He also speaks positively of the seemingly unnecessary additions, as said by the fans.
Kerr said, “He is one of the great competitors in the game. He’s one of the great point guards of all time. I think he’s a great addition for us because of his ability to control games, control tempo, take care of the ball.” He has nothing but praise for him.
As the team tries to find which combination will work for them, it will be interesting to see how Paul will fit into the group. The team is known to put together intelligent players instead of flashy players. And with the addition of Paul, another smart player, per Steve Kerr, the Golden State Warriors team seems more robust than ever.
