“I always support any form of peaceful protest… That’s what our country is founded on”: Steve Kerr sides with Giants’ manager Gabe Kapler for protest against the Nation Anthem after Uvalde Tragedy

Steve Kerr and Gabe Kapler

Steve Kerr has always been loud on his voice and stepped up whenever it was necessary and important. He was really shocked and disappointed with the government after the Uvalde Tragedy as he even addressed it to the Media. Recently, Steve Kerr came out in support of San Francisco Giants’ manager Gabe Kapler and praised him for his peaceful protest against the national anthem after the tragedy which took away the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, USA. Gabe Kapler has decided to no longer attend or stand with his team for the national anthem as a peaceful protest against the Texas school shooting where many innocents were killed for no reason.

Gabe Kapler talking about his decision before Friday’s game quoted: “I don’t plan on coming out for the anthem going forward until I feel better about the direction of our country. That’ll be the step. I don’t expect it to move the needle necessarily. It’s just something I feel strongly enough about to take that step…” Many stand with the manager and understand the cause and importance behind this step of his and Steve Kerr is one of them. But again there are many people who are criticizing him. As White Sox Manager Tony La Russa stated that as an insult and quoted: “You need to understand what the veterans think when they hear the anthem or see the flag. And the cost they paid and their families. And if you truly understand that, I think it’s impossible not to salute the flag and listen to the anthem.”

It’s not the first time Gabe Kapler is peacefully protesting as back in 2020 he joined several players in taking a knee to protest racial injustice and police brutality during the national anthem. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr though sides with him and understands the importance and reason behind all the steps the manager is taking. As he himself was holding back tears while discussing the tragic event at Uvalde, Texas.

Steve Kerr applauded San Francisco Giants’ manager Gabe Kapler for his decision of not attending the national anthem. As he quoted: “I always support any form of peaceful protest. That’s what our country is founded on. I think it’s great that he is making his own statement. I think everyone has to do it their own way, and that’s the way Gabe chose and I applaud him for it. I think it’s important for all of us to take part in this march. You know using that term metaphorically but also literally there’s a march…I think it’s important for everybody to express their frustration, their disgust, their anger, whatever it is in any way that they deem fitting. I support everybody’s right to demand better from our country.”

Steve Kerr was very right with his explanation and it all makes sense. Many others have also backed up the decision of San Francisco Giants’ manager to not attend the national anthem. As they and the fans around believe people like him can help the nation to pull some higher-level officials in getting the job done correctly and serve justice to the innocents.
