Gary Payton II just wants to have a normal playoff run, instead he gets rammed by a basketball for missing an alley-oop. Payton recently featured in Golden State’s emphatic, comeback victory against Boston Celtics in Game 2, after suffering a blowout defeat against them in Game1. Golden State didn’t give up, they conquered, defending their home court in an emphatic 107-88 victory against the Eastern Conference Champions, Boston Celtics, to tie the series going into Boston. Vintage Warriors were on display as they set the court aflame in the 3rd Quarter, storming the Celtics and tying the Finals at 1-1 each, as he head to Massachusetts for Game 3.

The score at halftime was 52-50 in favor of the Warriors, with the Celtics snapping at their heels. The 3rd quarter began , and so did the decimation by the Warriors, as they were spearheaded by their ‘Achilles’, Stephen Curry. It was absolute carnage at the Chase Centre as Curry put on a show and Poole topped it off with a jaw-dropping 3 pointer. Steph Curry led the way for Golden State with 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Jordan Poole added 17 points off of the bench. The Warriors forced 18 Boston turnovers and they scored 33 points off of those turnovers, which was a big factor in the outcome of the game.

“That’s what you get for missing an alley” – Steve Kerr and the Warriors share a hysterical moment with Gary Payton II

This was Payton’s first match since he suffered an elbow fracture via an altercation with Dillon Brooks, against Memphis Grizzlies earlier in the playoff. Gary Payton II has taken his fair share of bumps and bruises during the Warriors’ playoff run, most notably that Dillon Brooks’ malicious foul which kept him out until the NBA Finals. The environment can get very tense during such a competitive Finals series, so it’s nice that his teammates can have fun with him after a comical moment during practice at the TD Garden before Game 3 against the Boston Celtics.

It all started off when Golden State coach Steve Kerr sees GP2 heading down the court and decides to bounce him an alley-oop. Not only does Payton miss the dunk, adding salt to the wound was when he gets crushed with another stray ball from presumably a teammate. The reaction from everyone involved is amusing, mixed with a hint of pity. Kerr feels terrible about it before smiling, while Payton tried to find the culprit responsible for head-shot on him with a ball. Payton goes from a look of annoyance, like, who the heck did this, to a sly laugh and points as Juan Toscano-Anderson howls with delight.

“I hope somebody got that on camera,” said Toscano-Anderson with the perfect mischievous tone, as he was the culprit. It’s hard to tell from that video who’s the guilty party of the awry shot, but it made for the perfect lighthearted moment before a crucial Game 3 for the Warriors. Naturally, it produced quite a few laughs from his teammates. Coach Kerr could only hold his hands to his head as he saw the entire thing transpire.

The 29-year-old logged 25 minutes, replacing Andre Iguodala in the rotation. He was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field, connecting on a 3-point attempt. He also added three assists and three rebounds during the contest, and while on the defensive end of the floor, he had the tough assignment to guard Jayson Tatum. It was a great NBA Finals debut performance, worthy of the standing ovation that he received.

Beware of the Splash Brothers Boston. The Warriors will be content to go to Boston tied at 1-1, however, in the words of the legendary Kobe Bryant, “Job’s Not Finished”. All is not lost for Boston, the Celtics need to only win their remaining home games to become champions, though that won’t be easy against a Warriors team that has won at least one road game in an NBA-record 26 consecutive playoff series. Things are getting serious, it’s going to go down the wire, as the armies battle it out in Michigan, who will emerge with the NBA Trophy, prepare to be entertained as Game 3 comes up, as its good to have Gary Payton II back within the Warriors
