Jimmy Butler is confidently heading into the Miami Heat‘s play-in matchup despite people doubting their chances. The Miami Heat finished as the #7 seed this season after topping the Eastern Conference in 2022. “Ain’t nobody picked us last year. Who cares? Nobody is picking us this year. Still don’t give a damn,” said Jimmy regarding his headspace going into the game tonight.

The Miami Heat made the NBA Finals in 2020 as a four seed but did not make it there in 2022 despite being the #1 seed. The Heat almost won game seven against the Boston Celtics last year if not for Jimmy Butler’s wayward attempt for a game-winner with time on the clock. The Heat is not seen as a playoff threat this season, and they have performed better while being the lower seed which might motivate Butler.

Butler, on the other hand, has no regrets and no plans to alter the way he conducts his business. Butler does not care about Miami’s future despite the low expectations placed on him and the rest of the Heat organization. Miami will look to beat the struggling Atlanta Hawks, who they cleaned up in the first round last year, to secure the 7th seed in the East.

The Miami Heat finished the season with a mediocre 44-38 record and landed the 7th seed. Their play-in matchup comes against familiar faces, and after keeping Trae Young to his worst shooting numbers ever in an entire series last season, tonight should be a breeze for the Heat. Miami is 3-1 against Atlanta this season, but none of their wins were by a double-digit margin.

If the Heat does make it past Atlanta, they will have a conference finals rematch with the Boston Celtics in the first round. Miami fell in seven to Boston in 2022 and beat them in seven games in 2020, giving these teams solid history between them. Losing to the Hawks would mean another shot at the playoffs for a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The lower seeds in the East are not safe at all this season, as 3 MVP candidates lie in the top-3 roots. Miami would want to avoid facing either the Bucks or the Celtics, but the Heat will fancy their chances since Boston has a history of close playoff games with Miami. Jimmy Butler will have to put this franchise on his back as he so often does in the NBA playoffs.
