DeAndre Ayton is back in the NBA headlines. And, unfortunately, the reason isn’t him breaking through and carrying the Phoenix Suns in their postseason run. Instead, it’s his reaction after getting benched by Head Coach Monty Williams in Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets. DeAndre Ayton was benched in the fourth quarter as he wasn’t able to do the needful for his team to record a dub.
The Phoenix Suns won the game at 121-114 behind the greats of Kevin Durant (39 points, 8 assists, and 9 rebounds) and Devin Booker (47 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds). The Suns managed to not go down by 0-3 and now have tied the series at 1-2 against the Denver Nuggets. But their center, DeAndre Ayton who got a $133 million worth bag last summer was of no use in their win.
As DeAndre Ayton had a negative +/- of -4 in the game. And, he only contributed with 9 rebounds and 4 points with no great impact on either side of the floor. So Head Coach Monty Williams made the right decision by benching him in the fourth quarter on two separate occasions. The Suns brought in Jock Landale and he gave out a better performance compared to DeAndre Ayton. As Jock Landale had a +/- of +10 and contributed with 9 rebounds, 6 points, and 1 steal.
DeAndre Ayton though was visibly upset with this move and was letting the world know. After getting pulled out from the game, he left Chris Paul hanging twice and even left the arena before the media was even allowed to enter the locker room. And, now he gets trolled and criticized by the fans on the internet.

DeAndre Ayton being upset after getting benched in a playoff game is understandable but wrong at the same time. As he was getting clowned by the Nuggets in the post. So getting him out of the system was a great decision by Monty Williams and it even impacted the final result. And, basketball being a team game the thing which should matter the most is a dub.
But unfortunately, DeAndre Ayton isn’t a tough guy with that mentality and the fans now troll him on the internet. You can find some of the many reactions posted by fans on Twitter here below:
DeAndre Ayton in the 8 post-season games played so far has averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. So Month Williams pulling him out during clutch is very understandable. Also, he should soon apologize to Chris Paul for leaving him hanging twice. CP3 who was sidelined with a groin injury was just trying to boost him up with a dab.
