Suns coach Monty Williams reveals confrontation with Chris Paul after extended bench time in Game 1 vs Mavs

Chris Paul’s Phoenix Suns are all prepared to lock horns against the resilient Dallas Mavericks in their particular semi-final series. Even though the ‘best-team’ of 2021-22 season came out victorious in front of their home fans in Game 1, it seems like all was not pleasant between CP3 and coach Monty Williams as the latter decided to bench the Point God for added minutes.
Having played for only 29 minutes in a rather comfortable Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Paul reveals his frustration to Monty Williams. The latter went onto reveals the same after the game ended as per Gerald Bourget of PHNX Sports.

“Monty Williams said dialing back Chris Paul’s minutes was not a part of the plan, but he sat him longer than usual because Cam Payne was playing well and it helps keep him fresh for the 4th quarter.
Mentioned CP3 having a few choice words for him when he subbed him out in the 3Q.”
Game 1 of Mavs vs Suns series was a game wherein the away side always kept chasing (from the first quarter where they trailed 6-18) the contest. While Luka Doncic went onto score game-high 45 points, CP3 and Devin Booker’s led the Suns to a comfortable position until the fourth quarter. Although the Mavericks did have a late surge, but it seemed too late for the side to catch up.
That being said after resistance shown by Chris Paul, Monty Williams will surely be keeping a note of letting his star guard roll on the floor. Especially given this series and opposition, it is vital for CP3 to be able to lead the team on the offensive end. Also, with no reports of this matter escalating, hopefully Williams and CP3 are going to sort it out in the locker room itself.
Lastly, this confrontation from Chris Paul only goes onto show how badly the 36-year-old wants to contribute to the team’s success.
