“To see him lose his job was tough” Suns’ Head Coach, Monty Williams gives heartfelt reaction to Nets firing Steve Nash
Monty Williams and Steve Nash
Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams felt pity for former Brooklyn Nets head coach Steve Nash after he was sacked from his position. The whole NBA Twitter lit up as soon as the Nets gave out the news. Monty had a mouthful of praises for the Nets’ head coach, who was also a former back-to-back MVP winner.
Monty Williams was talking to the reporters when this question was raised. He said, “It’s always tough to see somebody lose their job. We all kind of know how hard these jobs can be. I haven’t seen anybody have to deal with more than him in recent years as far as non-basketball stuff.”
Monty added, “To see him lose his job, it’s tough to watch from afar. I know this community is fond of him and rightfully so. He’s one of the most respected people historically in the league. To see him lose his job was tough.” Nash headed the Brooklyn Nets team only for two seasons before he was shown the way out. The Nets management also stated that the players weren’t considered while this decision was being made.
Boston Celtics’ suspended coach is reportedly set to replace Nets’ Head Coach Steve Nash
It is rumored that suspended Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is expected to step in to replace Steve Nash as the new coach for Brooklyn. Udoka was an assistant coach under Nash in Brooklyn for the 2020-2021 NBA season. According to The Athletic, the Celtics have granted the Brooklyn management permission to interview Udoka for the job as he still remains under contract with the Celtics, and the Nets plan to hire him.
ESPN further stated that the deal could be finalized within 24 to 48 hours. The Celtics suspended Udoka for the entire 2022-2023 NBA season for violating the team’s code of conduct. He reportedly had a consensual relationship with a female staffer within the Celtics management. The Nets have appointed Jacque Vaughn as the team’s interim coach until they hire a new coach.
Ime also had coaching stints with the San Antonio Spurs and Philadelphia 76ers. It will be interesting to see how the Nets plan to work with Udoka if he is hired. The fans will pin hopes on Ime to better the team’s current record and end the title drought.
