“Kobe!”, something all of us shout with glee as we shoot even a paper ball into the dustbin from long range imaging us as Kobe Bryant, including the model star, Gigi Hadid. Kobe has been one of the most influential and hardworking basketball players in the history of the game, and not a day goes by when we tear up remembering his greatness, on the court and off it. Looking back at how Gigi remembered meeting Kobe for the first time, a moment of a lifetime. She even wore a full-on Lakers uniform to school every day before she was snapped on the street sporting Balmain and Chanel.
Kobe Bean Bryant was one of the greatest basketball players to have ever played the sport. He was an icon of the sport for an entire generation. From fellow NBA players to fans off the court, Kobe’s fandom rivaled that of MJ in his prime and LeBron. Kobe had many celebrity fans, but this fan may out-duel all Kobe fans’ stories.

“I was shit*ing myself” Gigi Hadid was starstruck on meeting Kobe Bryant for the first time
Bryant is considered to be one of the greatest LA Lakers in franchise history. He brought his Mamba Mentality every time he stepped on the court, and that is what made him special. Kobe Bryant is undoubtedly one of the most inspiring figures in basketball history. Whether it’s his style of play or his impact on people because of his performances, Bryant has touched the lives of several people. Supermodel Gigi Hadid in an old interview talked about her own Kobe story. When asked about what her favorite birthday was and what she did on that birthday, she had a specific event on her mind.
Gigi said, “I think it was my thirteenth birthday. I am a huge Kobe Bryant Lakers fan and so for my 13th birthday my parents brought me and some friends to a Lakers game.” She continued, “I got to wear a yellow and purple wig and my braces were yellow and purple. I had my whole Kobe uniform on.”
“I met Kobe last year at Taylor’s show in LA and like I couldn’t even talk. Taylor was like go over and say hi and I’m like I’m literally shitting myself. Like Kobe Bryant is the only person, one of the only people that I get starstruck around, but his whole family is so nice and his daughters and his wife are, you know, so sweet and I don’t get as nervous around them so I usually talk to them.”
Anybody would be mesmerized by the sheer greatness in front of them, while meeting Kobe Bryant, even a superstar such as Gigi Hadid herself. Having played for 20 seasons, Bryant achieved everything because of his undying passion and love for the game. His eternal drive and commitment to the game remains unparalleled, which we today refer to as ‘Mamba Mentality’. Kobe Bryant’s tragic helicopter crash in January 2020, still haunts the entirety of the NBA community, as we were left numb with the news of him passing away.
Model Gigi Hadid shared her condolences with a throwback photo of herself wearing a No. 8 Lakers Jersey at her basketball-themed 11th birthday party. “Shocked and heartbroken, gone way too soon. Rest In Peace & Power, Legend- being a fan of yours brought so much joy to my life. Sending my love, strength, and deepest condolences to the sweet Bryant family” she said.
At the end of the day, Kobe’s legacy will shine the brightest among most of the athletes of his generation. Kobe will always be remembered for his unshakable will to win and his elite skillset to make it happen. What he accomplished transcended generations as he set the benchmark for what it means to work hard to become the best version of yourself. You will always be remembered Kobe, Mamba Out !
