Taylor Hendricks wasn’t on the radar of many NBA scouts when he graduated from high school. He chose to play for UCF, where he became the most decorated recruit in the program’s history. But he was still far from a household name, ranked as the 67th best player and the 10th best power forward in the country by 247Sports Composite ratings.

Hendricks proved himself as a force to be reckoned with during his freshman year at UCF. He was a dominant presence in the paint, averaging team-highs in points, rebounds and blocks. He played in every game and helped the Knights reach the second round of the NIT before their season was cut short.

His coach Johnny Dawkins praised him for his team-first mentality and his potential to be a star in the NBA. “He was a joy to coach,” Dawkins said. “He’s always first to say, ‘What can I do to help my teammates?’ and that’s rare for a freshman who’s having the type of year he’s had.

Hendricks said he was thrilled to join the Utah Jazz, a team that had the best record in the NBA last season. He said he was confident that his skills would fit well with the Jazz’s system and culture.

First and foremost my effort,” he said. “The effort I give on the offensive and defensive end [of the court], my shooting ability, my ability to block shots and just the ability to fit in with a lot of different lineups.
