After a series of incidents that resulted in a 25-game suspension, Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies’ superstar, now finds himself at the center of a controversy. The NBA star’s father, Tee Morant, spoke out about his son’s controversies at a kids’ basketball camp in New Orleans over the weekend. His open comments have now sparked a storm of online responses.
Ja Morant, who was selected with the second pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, has established himself as one of the league’s most exciting young players. However, his journey to stardom was hindered by a number of off-court issues that damaged his reputation.
In a series of regrettable events, Morant was accused of punching a teenager during an informal basketball game, using red laser pointers against other players, and engaging in a conflict with a Foot Locker employee. The situation escalated dramatically when the Grizzlies star brandished a firearm on Instagram Live on two separate occasions, resulting in his suspension.
Addressing the young players at the camp, Tee Morant said, “My son didn’t get in trouble cause of people around him, he got in trouble because of his decisions. So always be mindful of every decision y’all make because it’ll take over you and consume you… whenever y’all go anywhere just think everything is looking at you, everything is magnified. The smallest thing you can do can make the biggest difference in your life.”
Ja Morant has avoided the spotlight since the events, but the consequences of his behavior are still present.
