Draymond Green is attracting a whole bunch of controversy recently. The Warriors’ forward is known for his fiery personality and his vocal leadership on and off the court. Pivotal to the Warriors’ success, he brings defense, versatility, and energy to the team.

However, that passion at times comes at a price, as Green often gets into trouble with opponents, referees, and the league. On Thursday, he missed Game 3 of the Warriors’ first-round series against the Kings due to a suspension. The league had announced punishment for Green after stomping on the chest of Kings’ center Domantas Sabonis and his subsequent actions of taunting the crowd while showing no remorse.

The league tagged his behavior as “unnecessary and excessive contact” and “unsportsmanlike conduct,” resulting in a one-game ban without pay. The suspension cost Green $160,000 in salary and also hurt his team’s chances of winning the game. However, in the absence of their veteran, the Warriors showed their champion pedigree and won the game by 114-97.

Well, Green is not planning to change his ways anytime soon. “They created a Draymond rule before, that s— don’t work. I’m still sitting here,” Green admitted after practice Saturday.

Draymond won’t be moved by the Draymond rule,” Green added. “I’ll continue to play the game how I play the game, operate how I operate, be exactly who I am because that leads to winning. If I was losing, they wouldn’t be creating Draymond rules. As long as they create Draymond rules, that means we’re winning and that’s great … but it doesn’t change Draymond.

Green’s suspension is nothing new for the fiery forward, who has a history of losing his temper and shattering boundaries on the court. Through his history books, he has missed Game 5 of the 2016 NBA Finals against the Cavs after hitting LeBron James below the belt, a pivotal moment that many believe cost the Warriors the title. The next season, the league changed the rules to limit the number of technical and flagrant fouls that players could rack up before facing suspension.

The rule states that a player will be automatically suspended for one game if he gets 16 technical fouls in the regular season or seven in the playoffs. A player will also be suspended for one game if he gets four flagrant foul points in the regular season or three in the playoffs. A flagrant 1 is worth one point and a flagrant 2 is worth two points.

Green has come close to those limits several times in his career, but he has always managed to avoid suspension by either appealing his fouls or by keeping his emotions in check in crucial games. He has also learned to channel his energy in more productive ways, such as being a vocal leader for his team and a mentor for younger players.
