As the whole Robert Sarver controversy keeps growing, another NBA individual too faced public scrutiny in the past which led him to surrender his franchise and ultimately got banned forever from the NBA, this person was none other than Donald Sterling. Sterling was the then owner of Los Angeles Clippers who not only had to surrender his ownership of the team but also paid a hefty fine of $2.5 Million over racist remarks he made over the phone with his girlfriend.

The world immediately came crashing down for Donald Sterling whose a steep fall in his businesses as no company was ready to have any sort of relationship with the racist individual Several corporations, including Red Bull, Kia, Virgin America, and Adidas, had severed connections with the group and Sterling faced many lawsuits for the same, needless to say, he was condemned all over the world for his comments, in a throwback video former NBA star Metta World Peace talks about how the league was racist until Sterling’s departure

In an old interview with Vlad TV, when Metta world peace was asked about the prevailing racism in the NBA, this is what he had to say “well I think it was racism with Mr. Donald Sterling, I think that was racist um I think he lost his team over it he did get paid a lot of money but he didn’t want to sell his team, yeah and he was already a billion he’s already a billionaire so it’s not like but he got a shout out I mean or he cashed out but he probably was not the way he wanted to right but he got paid a lot of good money

He further mentioned how racism was deep-rooted in America at that time “America has been racist for a long time right yeah so obviously is racism in every big corporation right that started and when the NBA first started the NBA was very racist in 19 I guess what the 50s I mean had no black people, yeah blacks weren’t even allowed in the NBA right so everything do they have Negro Leagues for them I know they had it in baseball they had it in basketball too.”

He continued “they had an I don’t think so I don’t think so now I don’t know I’m not that educated but you know I think over time growing up in America I can’t speak about other countries on growing up in America I think over time you know you got people that realize that racism is very very ignorant you know and uh and that’s where we are today you know people understand it you know and um people are very uh you know they’re very very knowledgeable towards racism each other”
