“This dude is nuts” – Former NBA champion JR Smith shares ANNOYING stories of Chris Paul’s ‘competitive’ rookie moments

JR Smith and Chris Paul

Chris Paul, the superstar point guard for the Phoenix Suns, is widely regarded as one of the best players in NBA history. However, he has also gained a reputation for being one of the most annoying players to play alongside. This sentiment is shared by some of his fellow players, including Rajon Rondo, Patrick Beverley, and Blake Griffin, who have all been involved in notorious fights with Paul.

But it’s not just his opponents who find him irritating. Even some of his former teammates have admitted to finding him annoying, including J.R. Smith. Smith played with Paul on the New Orleans Hornets early in both of their careers and recounted an experience on a family cruise that highlighted just how annoying Paul could be.

“He won’t stop talking,” Smith recalled. “He won’t stop talking about everything. I’m like, ‘Oh my god! I hope he’s not really like this!’. Just so happens, we live across the street from each other in Oklahoma City. So he’s driving me to practice every day…and sure enough, talking, talking, talking…on the plane talking, talking, talking…on the bus, talking, talking, talking. I’m like ‘Dude! Do you ever chill out?’. But, I love CP man.”

Smith also mentioned that he and Paul had numerous verbal arguments due to Paul’s competitiveness and attitude. JJ Redick, another former teammate of Paul’s, echoed this sentiment, noting that Paul’s competitive drive could sometimes cause friction in the locker room.

Despite his irritating tendencies, Paul remains a highly respected and beloved player in the league. His passing ability, ball handling, and high IQ have earned him the nickname “Point God” and made him a force to be reckoned with on the court.

Despite his impressive resume, which includes 12 All-Star selections, four All-NBA First Team selections, and two Olympic gold medals, there is one thing that has eluded Paul throughout his 18-year career: an NBA Championship. Paul came close in 2021 when the Phoenix Suns made it to the NBA Finals but ultimately fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

Now, with the addition of Kevin Durant to the Suns’ roster, Paul and his teammates are more determined than ever to win a championship. Paul has made it clear that winning a championship is his sole focus at this point in his career.

Paul’s leadership and experience have been instrumental in the Suns’ success this season. He has helped mentor younger players like Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, while also leading by example on the court.

If the Suns are able to win a championship this season, it would be a crowning achievement for Paul and a testament to his incredible career. Despite his annoying tendencies, there is no denying that Paul is one of the best players of his generation and a true legend of the game.
