On Sunday, the Los Angeles Lakers were defeated 118-125 by the Los Angeles Clippers. LeBron James claimed that their tiring schedule was to blame, as they had just completed a five-game road trip that culminated in a back-to-back. The team appeared exhausted during the game.
The Lakers’ head coach, Darvin Ham, also defended his decision to play James and Anthony Davis fewer minutes than Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, who played 43 minutes. Ham stated that he was trying to manage the workload of his star players, who have both struggled with injuries throughout the season.
“It’s tough. It’s one of the toughest games we’ve had this year,” James said. “This was one of those scheduling conflicts in the season. And it definitely got the best of us tonight.”
The Los Angeles Lakers have two remaining regular-season games against the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz. Currently at seventh place, they are tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for the eighth seed, and are one game behind the Golden State Warriors in sixth place in the Western Conference standings.
NBA Fans Criticize LeBron James’ Excuses
While James and the Lakers may have tried to downplay the impact of the team’s tough schedule on their loss to the Clippers, NBA fans were quick to criticize the excuses made by the Lakers superstar.
Following the game, social media was flooded with comments from fans slamming James for making excuses and failing to take responsibility for the team’s poor performance. One fan wrote, “This n***a got the most excuses in the world.“
These comments echo a growing sentiment among NBA fans that James is quick to deflect blame and make excuses for his team’s struggles, rather than taking responsibility for their shortcomings.
