Timberwolves analyst FIRED after stealing ‘strategic NBA information’ executive vice VP
The T-Wolves have serious issue to look into despite the playoffs approaching.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently among the top teams in the West. Recently, the organization came across an unfortunate turn of events, having to fire one of their employees. The Wolves are having a perfect season, with their young star, Anthony Edwards leading the team to multiple wins, and overall establishing the squad as a serious threat in the West.
On Wednesday, Wolves’ coaching analyst, Somak Sarkar was fired and arrested on the burglary charge. The latter went on to face a court hearing on Thursday. T-Wolves were aware of the allegations that Sarkar faced but did not choose to comment on the incident, as the Timberwolves told ESPN. The situation included a series of events that led to the alleged theft that involved Wolves’ VP, Sachin Gupta.
As per the reports, the incident took place in early February this year. Gupta had left a hard drive in his office which contained crucial information, including player contracts, Gupta’s own financial information, and confidential team files. When Gupta returned to his office, he found the drive missing. As it turned out, the VP couldn’t find the drive when he came back.
The Timberwolves turned out to be the hapless franchise
Sarkar was caught later on, as he was seen entering Gupta’s office on the 3rd of February. Later, the police also searched his home. Some other employee recovered the hard drive, and it was found out that the coaching analyst had accessed more than 5,000 files and copied them.
Looking at Sarkar’s employment history on his LinkedIn, he had worked with other organizations as well. Sarkar had a similar role when working for the New York Knicks and the New Orleans Pelicans. Other than that, he started off his career in the NBA, working in the basketball operations department as an intern for the Houston Rockets.
Out of all the organizations, T-Wolves were the unfortunate organization to have to go through a serious case on Sarkar. While the team has been pretty dominant on the court, the internal nuisance might affect the front office. This will also be a lesson for the long term for the franchise. With the regular season coming to an end and the postseason approaching, the team has a much bigger aspect to focus on. The Timberwolves will look to top the West by the end of the season.
