Tracy McGrady, one of the top players in the league during his prime, was selected as an All-Star seven times in his 17-year career. He made a name for himself primarily during his time with the Orlando Magic and the Houston Rockets. However, his career took a downturn after suffering an injury in the 2008 season, leading to a decline in performance and ultimately retiring from the game.
Recently, the Hall of Famer appeared on the Pat Bev Podcast and criticized NBA franchise owners for their complacency and lack of effort toward winning championships. McGrady expressed that, for some owners, the NBA is simply a hobby, and they do not prioritize winning championships.
“Every organization is not trying to win a championship in the NBA,For some of these owners, the NBA might just be a hobby gig for them. They make their money somewhere else,” T-Mac said.
McGrady stated that those who claim certain teams are competing for championships are misguided because some of these teams haven’t even made it to the playoffs in 15-20 years. He asserted that if these teams genuinely aim to compete, they should take accountability and replace their entire front office for not performing their job effectively.
“If you look at some of the teams that have not even competed or make the playoffs in 15 to 20 years, you trying to tell me they’re trying to win a championship?,” McGrady asked. “If they are, they need to fire everybody in their office.”

Tracy McGrady doesn’t understand James Harden’s trade request
Before the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, rumors surfaced that different teams were potentially trading James Harden. As soon as the season ended, Harden chose to exercise his player option and requested a trade, specifically to the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite the 76ers’ intentions to keep Harden, he made it clear that he is unhappy with the front office and desires to play for the Clippers.
In a recent interview with GQ Sports, NBA Hall of Famer Tracy McGrady criticized Harden’s behavior and questioned his trade request from Philadelphia. McGrady pointed out that despite playing with multiple Hall of Famers, Harden has yet to secure a championship ring.
“That makes zero sense to me,” McGrady said. “I look at all the teammates he’s played with. James has probably played with more Hall of Famers than anybody in the NBA, and he doesn’t have a ring to show for it. I don’t know what he’s looking for.”
McGrady further expressed his confusion about Harden’s motives, suggesting that there may be some internal conflict within the team that led to his trade request. “I don’t know what he’s looking for. And maybe there’s some internal bull**it that is going on that we don’t know about,” T-Mac said.
He also highlighted the opportunity for Harden to win a championship with the reigning MVP Joel Embiid as his teammate and a comparatively less competitive Eastern Conference. Speculating that there must be more to the situation than what the general public knows.
“Because it doesn’t make any sense to me to leave the MVP, and the Eastern Conference, where you have a shot to at least play for a championship. It’s got to be something deeper than what you know. Get over it, man.”
