2024, New Year, new start, and perhaps new resolutions, but the same Trae Young. It’s a sight to behold if you are an NBA fan when you see professionals like Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard, and Trae Young shooting and making buckets from, the infamously used term “parking lot”.

Half-court shots, logo shots, buzzer beaters – you name it, they have it all. But sometimes even these professionals fail to take the risk. And what happens? The media takes good note of it. And that’s the same case with Trae Young recently.

There is no denying Trae Young’s ability. From silky maneuvering on the court to finding teammates easily, his ability to perform under absolute pressure is bewildering. But it is his shooting ability from various ranges that the NBA has taken into account.

But in the recent game against the New Orleans Pelicans, the term “Confidence can be your biggest enemy” was very much in play as the Point Guard attempted a ridiculous logo shot, followed by yelling “Kobe”, an old-school term while making a shot honoring the Late Legend, which he completely fluffed. Hope he hasn’t forgotten about the recent incident, even if he has, the internet stood there to remind him.

In a one-sided dominating win between the Atlanta Hawks and New Orleans Pelicans, it was the Hawks that got absolutely thrashed in their recent meetup with a score of 150-116. While the scoreline was enough to garnish headlines, Trae, who had 13 points in the entirety of the game, caught attention as well.

His shot in the 2nd quarter of the half, while their team was trailing, was a huge disappointment for the fans. But making matters worse was the “overconfidence” from his side when he yelled “Kobe”.

For a player of his caliber, everyone wanted him to make the shot. With 14 wins and 20 losses, it could be a long season ahead for the Atlanta Hawks. And even longer wait for the already annoyed fans, who have been very vocal on the internet.

Fans had been eagerly waiting to witness one of Trae’s audacious long-range attempts. The video of him has been circling the internet and has resulted in fans airing their views on the incident. So much so that even memes have begun circulating in recent days.

It was a day to forget for Trae Young and a field trip for the fans. The plethora of memes proves that there is simply no hiding from the internet. Trae hasn’t responded to the tweets, but the internet has tons if not a plethora of responses.

And Hawks fans hope this is a wake-up call for the players and teams, given the talent they have. A result like the one Hawks produced can always be the final nail in the coffin. But at the moment, it seems there is a feeling that the coach and players can still turn this around.

And hopefully soon. In Laker’s coach’s words, the league is a “marathon”, but it can be an excuse rather than an upliftment, allowing everyone on the team to take matters into their own hands.
