At the 2016 Rio Olympics, the men’s basketball team from Team USA won gold. But that team is most likely remembered for living on a mega-yacht apart from the Olympics than for any particular play or stop. Paul George and DeMar DeRozan, two members of the team, recently discussed it in the former’s podcast, “Podcast P,” and it was what they remembered back then.
Every year, the USA Men’s Basketball Team is the favorite to win the Olympics and bring home the gold. Nevertheless, living on a mega-yacht with the women’s team and being isolated from the other athletes was the most unforgettable part of that Brazil trip. During his recent podcast appearance with Paul George, DeMar DeRozan provided insight into the true events that took place on the infamous Team USA yacht.
DeMar DeRozan said via “Podcast P”:
That was a grind, I ain't going to lie. Once we got to Rio on the boat, it was like we were eating the same s**t every day. We couldn't stand straight in the shower. Your room next to mine? I could hear your phone conversations.DeMar DeRozan on Podcast P
George and Demar mentioned that they enjoyed the moment by singing songs by 50 Cent and Lil Wayne. The team’s little efforts to foster friendship paid off, as they started a historic run that ended with an Olympic gold medal.
Team USA finished 5-0 and went undefeated in the elimination stages. They triumphed over Australia, Serbia, France, China, and Venezuela. It cemented their dominant legacy in the Olympics during the preliminary rounds with a +117-point differential.
Once DeMar DeRozan considered joining LA Clippers
Before deciding to sign with the Chicago Bulls, DeMar DeRozan thought about joining the Los Angeles Clippers in 2021 during his free agency.
Demar talked about his consideration on the podcast of the Los Angeles star forward, Paul George of the Clippers. It would have been a homecoming for Demar to play for the Clippers because he was raised in Los Angeles and attended USC.
DeMar DeRozan, then added, via Podcast P:
I used to think like man I gotta play home so I could see what it's like. I get it from both ways now.
George expressed his desire to see it through in 2021, claiming to be working “hard as s–t” to sign Demar, who was willing to play alongside fellow superstar Kawhi Leonard.
Ultimately, Demar signed a three-year, $82 million contract with the Bulls after the business aspect of the game stopped that from happening. Demar will be eligible for free agency once more in the summer of 2024, so he may try to rejoin the Clippers. Demar is the man of Chicago for the time being.
