Joel Embiid is one of the finest players in the NBA, but he also has a habit of flopping that annoys many fans and players. The Philadelphia 76ers center was caught flopping again in his team’s playoff opener against the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night.

The incident happened in the third quarter when Embiid drove to the basket and attempted a powerful dunk. He was met by Dorian Finney-Smith, who lightly touched his face as he went up. Embiid missed the dunk and fell to the floor, clutching his face and writhing in pain. He was awarded two free throws for the foul.

However, replays showed that Embiid was not hit hard at all and that he was more concerned about whether his dunk went in or not. He also seemed to exaggerate his reaction to draw a flagrant foul call from the referees.

One person who was not impressed by Embiid’s theatrics was Damian Lillard, who tweeted: “Embiid looked back to see if it went in and then tried to sell the flagrant [laughing emojis]

To be fair, Joel Embiid got the call he wanted and was fouled, but it might have been a bit of an overreaction. He barely flinched when he was hit on his way to the basket, and he finished the play with ease. It was a funny moment in an otherwise intense game.

Lillard was not alone in mocking Embiid for his flop. Many NBA fans took to social media to express their displeasure with Embiid’s antics. Some fans called him “emflop”, “soft” and a “cheater”. Others compared him to soccer players who are notorious for flopping. Some even suggested that he should be fined or suspended for his behavior.

Embiid is not the only NBA player who flops, but he is one of the most frequent and blatant offenders. Flopping is a tactic that some players use to gain an advantage over their opponents by drawing fouls, getting free throws, putting their opponents in foul trouble, or changing the momentum of the game.

The NBA has tried to discourage flopping by issuing warnings and fines to players who are caught flopping. However, these penalties have not been very effective, as some players continue to flop despite them. Embiid himself has been fined several times for flopping, but he has not stopped doing it.
