A tweet reading that the NBA superstar LeBron James requested a trade out of the Los Angeles Lakers team recently went around social media. This caused much stir in the NBA world as the fans couldn’t believe King James wanted out of the Lakers to move on to a better team. But to everyone’s surprise, this tweet wasn’t made by King James himself. With Elon Musk taking over Twitter, he changed a few policies and added some features that the people did not appreciate, leading to much confusion.

It happened that a verified Twitter account having the same attributes as the Lakers star LeBron James’ account made a tweet. As reported by TMZ, the tweet read, “Thank you #LakersNation for all the support through the years. Onto bigger and better things! #ThekidfromAKRON #ImComingHome.” Had it been the old Twitter, no one would have believed that this news is trustworthy, as having the same attributes as King James’ account doesn’t mean that LeBron himself has made the tweet.

Everyone thought this news was accurate because the account had a ‘blue tick,’ meaning the Twitter account had been verified. But with Elon Musk making some changes in how Twitter will be viewed, one of the most drastic changes and the so-called new feature was charging $8 for the ‘blue check mark.’ LeBron was the first prey after this new feature was updated.

This meant that anyone could have access to the ‘blue tick mark’ by taking a monthly subscription by paying $8. It is a new feature that was added to the bird app recently. As soon as some people noticed the misspelled handle name or clicked on the tick mark to read why the account was verified, they were led to believe until then that LeBron James was returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This decision of Musk to give any Twitter subscribers a blue tick by just paying for it has left people frustrated and engaged as they aren’t happy at all with this new feature.

Twitter and Tesla owner Elon Musk has defended himself after an account with LeBron James’ name caused a ruckus with a tweet as it had the famous ‘blue check mark’ in front of the Twitter handle name. Elon Musk now has added a subscription policy for the “blue-tick mark” and that has users trolling and clowning others.

As per TMZ, Elon stated that this new app feature had been added so that the social media company could make money. Another instance of a fake account pretending to be ESPN insider Adam Schefter, claimed that Las Vegas Raiders had fired their head coach Josh McDaniels. Well, this new feature will continue to be on the app henceforth, and it is necessary that people first verify the source of the news and then only believe it.
