Ahead of the trade deadline in February, D’Angelo Russell is involved in the trade conversation again. In 8 years in the league, he has been traded to 4 teams in the league. Russell was first traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Golden State Warriors in a 2019 sign-and-trade after being moved from the Los Angeles Lakers to Brooklyn in a 2018 deal. Russell recently answered the rumors of his trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves

He was first traded from the Nets to the Warriors in a 2019 sign-and-trade after being moved from the Lakers to the Nets in a 2018 deal. Russell is in the final year of a four-year, $117 million contract. Insiders claim that negotiations for a contract extension with the Timberwolves made little forward this past offseason. As a result, Russell is a likely target for trade this winter.

Speaking about trade rumors linked to him, Russell signaled that the teams so far have not been able to take advantage of his ability. “You either take advantage of me and my ability or f*ck up the opportunity with me. It’s as simple as that,” said Russell. When asked about his relevance on the team as a point guard, Russell said that he was one of the best point guards in the league. He added, “I feel like I’m better than a lot of shooting guards and I’m better than a lot of point guards.”

D’Angelo Russell is in the final year of a four-year, $117 million contract, and insiders claim that negotiations for a contract extension with the Timberwolves made little forward this past offseason. As a result, Russell is a likely target for trade this winter. If Minnesota doesn’t plan to re-sign Russell via Bird Rights at the end of the season, it would be sensible to trade Russell immediately.

Individual cap holds, also known as salary placeholders, are used by free agents to limit the amount that their current teams can pay to re-sign them. However, Minnesota would not inherit Russell’s $31.3 million salary in available cap space if he decided to leave the team and look for work elsewhere.
