Miami Heat legend Udonis Haslem came under fire for his two-word comment when NBA legend Bill Russell‘s jersey was hung in the Miami Heat arena. Haslem corrected his course on his podcast, the OGs, by mentioning what he actually meant at that time.

Haslem had uttered the words ‘F**k Bill Russell’ towards his teammates during the pregame ceremony of hoisting Russell’s jersey in the rafters. Now the retired Heat player issued an apology over his heat-of-the-moment hurtful comments. He said:

I got a lot of love and a lot of respect for Bill Russell…. Love what he did on the court a lot of respect. If I apologize to anybody it’ll be Russell’s family.
Udonis Haslem said

Haslem iterated that he did not mean disrespect towards Bill Russell, rather it was towards the Boston Celtics and their fans.

Haslem went on to say that his irritation is towards the Celtics fans. He said that he would not apologize to them. Haslem used some expletives in sounding them out:

Boston people, y'all have better chance of wrestling and alligator...I'm not apologizing to you motherf**kers for nothing.
Udonis Haslem continued

Haslem being a lifelong Miami Heat player, obviously does not have any love for rival Celtics and their fans.

During a previous show on the same podcast, Haslem’s ex-teammate Bam Adebayo tried to correct Haslam when talking about Bill Russell. Haslem did not seem to pay heed to Adebayo’s words. That added fuel to the fire and fan criticism against Haslem went through the roof. Adebayo did apologize on his part.

Udonis Haslem and his hate for the Boston Celtics

Udonis Haslem has never liked the Boston Celtics. He always felt they were the arch rival’s of the Heat in the Eastern Conference. He mentions that they have gone to battle several times during his 20 years as a Heat. Haslem particular does not like the Celtic’s players, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, who went up against him during his prime.

Haslem however, has been clear about his appreciation for current Celtics players. He does mention that since he does not play anymore they do not rile him up. But he would go up against Garnett and Pierce even if it is in a supermarket alley.

At least, Haslem has been clear about his respect and love for Bill Russell. Celtics and their fans however, will not get his respect.
