“They will return to the homeland” US Goverment set up a meeting with families of Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan

Brittney Griner has been held in turmoil for over 5 months now. Last month, she was found guilty of her charges and was sentenced to nine years in prison. The United States government has been working out a deal to bring her back to the homeland but the Russians are yet to follow through with their negotiations.
The WNBA Star is believed to be wrongfully held by the Russian authorities after being caught in possession of marijuana vape oil cartridges in his luggage. She claimed that she had no intentions of bringing them along with her and that it was a result of hasty packing.
The Phoenix Mercury player has not been able to fully or transparently communicate with her family and representatives at the US. As for now, she had only been able to send out emails and write letters back home. In her letter to the government she revealed that she feared she will be remain in Russia forever.
Joe Biden Administration confirms a meeting with Brittney Griner’s family
Recently, the Joe Biden Administration confirmed a meeting that will be set up with Brittney Griner‘s family members. This meeting will mostly likely be a direct conversation between both parties to sort out issues and figure out a way to proceed with their bargain to the Russian authorities.
As far her release goes, the government has offered Russia illegal arms dealer Viktor Bout in exchange for BG and retired Marine Paul Whelan who has also been arrested in Russian due to suspected espionage. The latter has yet to accept this trade but this is the only possible way Brittney could get an early release.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre address the nation saying, “As we have said before, we believe that Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney and Paul under intolerable circumstances. And as you know, we have been directly engaged with the Russian government through appropriate channels…”
“While I would love to say that the purpose of this meeting is to inform the families that the Russians have accepted our offer and we are bringing their loved ones home. The Russians should accept our offer. They should accept our offer today. We will keep working diligently until the day we get to share that good news.”
