Vanessa Bryant is alerting followers to a scam involving a report saying her late husband Kobe Bryant had cancer and had recommended a CBD oil. Kobe’s widow, Vanessa, is determined to not allow anyone off the hook who disrespects her late husband. The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation allegedly produced a CBD oil, according to an article Bryant published photos of on Instagram that seemed to be from People magazine. The piece, according to her, is a hoax, and stated that they were not at all involved with the brand in any way.

Kobe Bryant’s influence extended well beyond the NBA and the game of basketball, and his fans’ and family’s remembrance of his death are still extremely raw. Tragically, the Los Angeles Lakers great and his daughter Gianna were lost in a helicopter crash in January 2020. And although condolences and tributes have poured in for the late NBA icon over the years, some unpleasant reports, such as Bryant having cancer, have also surfaced in the media. Vanessa Bryant has angrily refuted a company’s assertion that her late husband consumed and supported its CBD oil.

Kobe Bryant’s NBA legacy

Kobe Bryant, a legendary player for one of the NBA’s most prominent teams, has accumulated a notable career. Having played a key part on five separate Lakers championship teams in the early 2000s, he was the league MVP, the Finals MVP thrice, the Lakers’ all-time top scorer, and is widely regarded as one the greatest players in NBA history. Before turning 23, he and fellow Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal won three straight titles (2000-02), and after going through some challenging postseasons in the midst of his career, he guided the Lakers to back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.

In the end, Kobe Bryant emerged as one of the league’s most prolific scorers that has ever surfaced. He won three scoring championships in 2003, 2007 and 2008, thanks to his exceptional blend of footwork, agility, strength, and shot-making. The only players ahead of him on the NBA’s all-time scoring list are Karl Malone, LeBron James, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Bryant’s accomplishments over his 20 seasons with the Lakers are well recognized in the team’s history and legacy. Bryant was included in the Class of 2020 for the posthumous induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is derived from hemp and marijuana, and studies suggest that it may help patients with schizophrenia, psychosis, or opiate addiction feel less anxious. The late Kobe Bryant’s wife posted a story on Instagram claiming that the NBA great had taken the oil, along with information about the NBA legend having cancer. Kobe Bryant said praised the benefits of the cannabis-based medicine in the Premium Grade CBD advertisement, which apparently appeared in a special People magazine health section. Vanessa Bryant made it clear that the product was a fake and that neither she nor People had anything to do with it.

According to the fake report, the late NBA icon supported CBD oil, and the Bryant Family Foundation was “rolling out” its own CBD oil. It went on to explain how the “Black Mamba” advertising the product encouraged users and increased sales. Bryant’s cancer survival was also mentioned in the paper although it was never discussed. Numerous advertisements uncovered by NBC News in 2019 had fraudulent celebrity endorsements from celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Joanna Gaines, and many more well-known people.
