Victor Wembanyama dropped 38 points in a win against the Devin Booker and Kevin Durant-led Phoenix Suns. Wemby erased all doubts anyone had about him as he kept on shattering records. He prevented a comeback from the Suns and carried his team to victory with a monstrous performance.
Wembayama was 15-of-26 shooting, 3-of-6 from the three-point line against the Suns. He also had ten rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. The Spurs initially led the game but Phoenix came back from a 20-point deficit. The Suns tied the game 116-116. However, Wembanyama scored 10 points and powered the Spurs to victory.
The star rookie broke a lot of records with this game. His 38 points are now tied for the 3rd most in a game by a Spurs rookie, tying David Robinson. He also became the only player since Shaquille O’Neal in 1992 to score 100 points and record ten blocks in his first five games.
Victor Wembanyama’s ecstatic rookie season
Victor Wembanayama was called the best prospect in the league’s history. However, doubts surrounded his ability to dominate the game after his debut game in the summer league. It is now safe to say that Wembayama just hasn’t proven his doubters wrong. He feels like one of the best rookies in the league’s history.
He has been averaging 20.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 blocks,1.4 steals and 1.6 assists per game. Wembanyama is shooting 50% from the field in 28.2 minutes per game.
If Wembayama continues this performance, he will join the elite company of Spurs legends Tim Duncan, Shaquille O’Neal, and Hakeem Olajuwon to average over 20 points, eight rebounds, and over two blocks per game. With Wembanyama on the team, the future of San Antonio basketball looks bright.
