Victor Wembanyama has taken the league by storm. Even though he hasn’t played a single regular season game yet, people are still in awe of his prowess. In just the few regular season appearances, he has shown just what he is capable of. As such, it is no surprise that he is already being considered for the coveted Rookie of the Year award.
The ROTY is given to the rookie who added the most value to his team. Victor Wembanyama, when asked how he felt about competing for the award, said it wasn’t his primary objective. He said he was more focused on putting 100% on the court. He added that he knows he’ll get the award if he puts his best on the court.
This is what Wemby said about the Rookie of the Year award:
It’s not my main goal. I know it’s gonna come. But, it’s not what I should worry about I think. It’s naturally gonna come if I put 100% on the court and sacrifice for my teammates.Victor Wembanyama on winning the ROTY.
Coach Greg Popovich will be happy to know that Wembanyama is adopting a pass-first mentality. Hopefully, for the Spurs, Wembanyama can stay injury-free and reach the ceiling of his true potential.
