Victor Wembanayama, the top pick in this year’s NBA Draft, is fully committed to his rookie season and has already mapped out a three-month basketball retreat to diligently prepare his body. Interestingly, he recently declined a party invitation from a billionaire in order to prioritize his game and be fully prepared for the game the following day.

As per reports, Wembanyama turned down an invitation to a players-only party hosted by Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin at Tao nightclub. Instead, he prioritized rest to ensure sufficient sleep for his second summer league game. The sacrifice proved worthwhile as the 7-foot-tall player delivered a stellar performance, recording an impressive 27 points and 12 rebounds against the Portland Trail Blazers. He silenced any doubters after a lackluster debut game where he only scored 9 points

Wembanyama is taking a serious approach to his summer plans. He has expressed his intention to distance himself from the media for a period and is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to work with legendary San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich as he prepares for the upcoming 2023-24 season. This decision to limit public exposure may also stem from a recent incident involving his security team and pop singer Britney Spears.

In regard to his participation in the upcoming FIBA World Cup, Wembanyama confirmed that he will not be competing. He expressed his excitement for the transformative months ahead, stating, “I got 2-3 great months that are coming and they’re gonna change my life. I’m probably gonna disappear from the media for the next months, honestly.”

Remarkably professional for his age, the 19-year-old Wembanyama follows in the footsteps of other European basketball stars like Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo, all of whom maintain a reputation for being low-maintenance and dedicated to their craft.

Victor Wembanyama has made a significant decision to prioritize his preparation for his upcoming NBA rookie season by opting out of representing France in the upcoming FIBA World Cup. The announcement was conveyed by Wembanyama himself in an interview. In addition, the young Spurs rookie intends to sit out the 2024 Paris Olympics to fully devote himself to his NBA career.

Although the France national team will have to proceed without Victor Wembanyama in the World Cup, his absence might not heavily impact their chances of success. The team boasts a formidable roster of NBA stars, including three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert, Nicolas Batum, and Evan Fournier. With the exception of Sylvain Francisco, every player on the roster has experience in either the NBA or the Euroleague.

France’s national basketball team is set to compete in Group H of the World Cup, alongside Lebanon, Canada, and Latvia. As the reigning Olympic Silver medalists, France aims to make a strong statement and build momentum before the upcoming Olympics.
