At 7’5″, Victor Wembanyama is a freak of nature. His towering presence is sure to be a factor defensively in the NBA and players will find it difficult to score over him. However, at his height, he becomes a target for athletic players to attack and dunk on. The last time someone 7’5″ and above was dunked on was during the 2020 NBA All-Star Dunk Contest when Aaron Gordon dunked over 7’6″ Tacko Fall.

Wembanyama hasn’t played a single game in the NBA yet but there is a young fan in New York who is keeping a close watch on the former Metropolitans 92 player. While in New York last week, Wembanyama had the most interesting conversation with a cute little kid in which he asks the kid if he wants to play in the NBA someday.

Much to his amusement, the kid replies by saying, “I wanna play in the NBA. I can slam dunk over somebody and it’s you.” Now that would definitely be a story for the ages if this young one grows up and actually becomes an NBA player and does manage to posterize Wembanyama someday.

The 19-year-old Frenchman was recently drafted as the number one pick overall in the 2023 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs. Touted to be the next big thing ever since LeBron James entered the league back in 2023, “Wemby” is all set to take over the league and make a name for himself among the legends of the game.

Will Wembanyama live up to all the hype?

There hasn’t been this much chatter around an NBA prospect since LeBron James, so one can imagine the pressure that Victor Wembanyama would be feeling at the moment. The Frenchman, though, seems to be calm and composed and was quoted as saying, “It’s just basketball, I have no pressure, no fear. I’m trying to have fun every time. You know, people have doubts, but I’m going to prove them wrong.”

He has what it takes to be great. Wemby will be playing for one of the greatest coaches in NBA history Gregg Popovich and has the backing of fellow NBA players such as LeBron, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Kevin Durant who all have wonderful things to say about him. Here’s hoping that this once-in-a-lifetime talent has a great career ahead of him and accomplishes every goal that he sets out to achieve.
