In a highly anticipated NBA Draft on Thursday night, the San Antonio Spurs selected Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick. The French sensation, often compared to legendary players Kevin Durant and Kevin Garnett, has been hailed as one of the best prospects in decades, drawing comparisons to LeBron James himself.
However, not everyone shares the same optimism for Wembanyama’s future success. Barstool Sports founder, Dave Portnoy, expressed his doubts about the young player in a tweet, stating, “I gotta be the only person on the planet that doesn’t think Wembanyama is a sure thing. That body screams break down to me.”
Despite Portnoy’s doubts, he acknowledged that passing up on a talent like Wembanyama would be a missed opportunity. In a follow-up tweet, Portnoy stated, “Don’t get me wrong, I’d obviously draft him, but I feel like guys like that always break down.”
The 19-year-old star himself remains unconcerned by the skepticism surrounding his physique. During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” Wembanyama confidently addressed his critics, stating, “They can think that because they don’t know my work ethic. I know how I work, how we work, in my surroundings, my environment. I could never have any doubt.”

Twitter reacts to Victor Wembanyama’s potential injury proneness
Following the selection of Victor Wembanyama as the No. 1 overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs, NBA Twitter erupted with a mix of anticipation and doubts. While many celebrated the Spurs’ acquisition of the highly touted player, some Twitter users expressed concerns about his potential for injury and labeled him an “injury-prone bust.”
Several Twitteratis pointed out Wembanyama’s tall and slender frame as a cause for worry. They raised questions about his ability to endure the physical demands of an 82-game NBA season, often citing past examples of players with similar builds experiencing injury setbacks throughout their careers.
As the NBA community eagerly awaits the debut of Victor Wembanyama in the upcoming season, the debate surrounding his long-term durability continues to divide opinions. While some remain cautious about his injury proneness, others are optimistic about his potential to make a significant impact on the court.
Only time will tell whether Wembanyama can silence his skeptics and fulfil the high expectations placed upon him as the top pick in the NBA Draft.
