The NBA draft is only a few hours away and Spurs fans are in for a treat as they will be hearing the name of the most hyped prospect since LeBron James was called up with their 1st overall pick.

Victor Wembanyama is a clear-cut candidate for the No.1 position in this year’s NBA draft as the 7-foot-4 French pro has shown to be a generational talent possessing a skill set that can rival that of LeBron James when he was coming into the league.

Brian Windhorst have been scouting Victor Wembanyama for a while now and weighs in on the insane upside he possesses as compared to rookie LeBron: “ “I think [Wembanyama’s] skill set … is ahead of where LeBron was at the same age, when LeBron was in maybe his third or fourth season, he started his trainer come to his house before every game to stretch him out… Victor has been doing that for a year,” Brian said. “Victor’s regimens and stuff are stuff LeBron was doing in year two or three.”

When LeBron came into the league, he was projected to be a franchise player fresh out of high school bullying defenders with his crazy athleticism in his rookie campaign, but Wemby might take the cake in terms of skillset as the 7-footer can do everything on the court and have a range beyond the arc, a skill James never quite master.

Victor has been playing in the French Pro League and the prospect already has an edge as compared to any college players who only played a very limited number of games (11 games).

Wembanyama is an outlier in this year’s draft compared to his peers as he has showcased the ability to contest any shot with his frame of a big man but can also put the ball on the floor as well as any point guard in the league.

Victor Wembanyama has one of the most promising skillsets coming into the Draft but his thin body frame weighs in at 230 pounds which is 5 pounds heavier than the NBA League average, but is lightweight taking his 7-foot-4 height taking into account.

However, despite tough criticisms from trainers and scouts Wembanyama’s agent has made it clear that the big man won’t look to add too much to his 230-pound body. Brian Windhorst also gave us an insight into Wemby’s situation: “Nobody pushed [LeBron] around with the exception of Ron Artest … Victor is going to get pushed around a lot … The thing about his frame is that he’s not looking to add to it.”

The staff around Wembanyama believed that adding more weight would only increase the chances of an injury and have decided to let him grow into his frame naturally. Adding mass to his body is also not the best idea as the prospect plays more like a guard than a centre and can be more agile with a thinner frame.

The French giant is set to be taken first by the San Antonio Spurs and if the organization can build around Wemby, the young prospect has the chance to be one of the best European players to ever play in the NBA.
