Dillon Brooks, now playing for the Houston Rockets, cannot let go of the Memphis Grizzlies. Playing against his former team for the first time in Memphis after six seasons with the team, Brooks put on a show.
Brooks started the game with 1 of 9 shooting in the first half. With 40 seconds left in the game, he hit a 3-pointer to give the Rockets a 99-94 lead. After being traded to the Rockets, Brooks was vocal about being the scapegoat for the Grizzlies last season. He talked about him being shown as the focal point of the problems the Grizzlies had last season. Therefore, this was a sweet self-victory for Brooks to have been the difference-maker in this matchup.
Dillon Brooks scored 24 of his 26 points in the second half as the Houston Rockets rallied back from a double-digit deficit at the half. They beat the Memphis Grizzlies 103-96. Leading the Rockets, Brooks put up 26 points and 7 rebounds playing 40 minutes. Fred VanVleet had 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists to help Brooks win the game. The Grizzlies were led by Desmond Bane who put up 28 points and 13 rebounds in the losing effort.
The surprisingly high-flying Rockets brought in Brooks to have a dogged defensive presence. Led by Ime Udoka, the Rockets are currently 6th in the Western Conference standings. It is a far cry from the 2nd worst record in the NBA last season. Brooks has brought into the mindset shared by his much-appreciated coach and is providing the goods.
Fans got to see the special side of Dillon Brooks
As much as Brooks draws attention to his villainous side, fans want to see what he can deliver for the Rockets play-wise. Averaging 13.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game might be lower than what he produced for the Grizzlies. But performances on the defensive end are what Brooks was brought in for. Adding such performances as against the Grizzlies will only add to his value.
Fans usually get to see Brooks and his antics on the court, determined to get under the skin of the opposition. But such highlight plays will only add to fans’ perception of him. This play made fans blow up the internet. Check out some of their reactions;
Apart from his defensive skills, if Brooks can deliver performances such as these from time to time, the Rockets and NBA fans will be thankful for their investment in him. Last season he was touted as the Villian. Such performances can flip the narrative.
