With every update that comes upon WNBA star Brittney Griner, it does seem like the process of her arrival back to her homeland is being delayed. With the legal situation between US and Russia never being at calm, everyone wants Griner to out of Russia as early as possible, especially after knowing that it has been more than 3 months that she has been detained in the foreign country.

Having being detained at Moscow airport, President Vladimir Putin’s representative/spokesman revealed that the 31-year-old WNBA star violated the laws of the country yet is no hostage. However, she is now being ‘prosecuted’ for her crimes. The particular spokesman called Dmitry Peskov exclaimed how Griner is no different to hundreds of Russian citizens who are caught with hash.

“She violated Russian law, and now she’s being prosecuted,” Dmitry Peskov, Putin’s spokesman, said on Monday. “It’s not about being a hostage. There are lots of American citizens here. They’re enjoying their freedoms…but you have to obey the laws. Why should we make an exemption for a foreign citizen?”

Brittney Griner was accused of smuggling drugs into Russia after a hashish oil vape pen was allegedly found in her luggage. She was then quickly detained by Russian authorities. The United States Department of State previously accused Russia of holding the professional athlete as a hostage, and the State Dept. determined that Griner was “wrongfully detained” in May before transferring her case to the State Department Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs.

A US representative, who met Griner in March has revealed as per Radaronline, “There’s only so much I can say,” Price said during an interview on March 23. “But what I can say is that our official found Brittney Griner to be in good condition. And we will continue to do everything we can to see to it that she is treated fairly throughout this ordeal.”

With all eyes on Brittney Griner’s case, when will we witness the WNBA star returning to her home land after already spending months in Russia. What twists awaits in this story next, remains to be seen.
