There were a lot of expectations from the Golden State Warriors this past season. After all, the Dubs were the defending champions, having beaten the Boston Celtics the previous season in the Finals. Unfortunately, their quest for back-to-back championships ended after they were defeated by LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Much was made of the Warriors inconsistencies this season, especially their record on the road which was abysmal. Injuries played their part too, with key players being sidelined during important stretches. One of the Warriors main offensive weapons off the bench, Jordan Poole, was a shadow of the player he was in the 2021/22 season. He struggled with shooting the ball throughout the season and, because of his inconsistent play, saw his minutes decline as a result.

In fact, for Poole and the Warriors, the problems started much before the season even began. News emerged that Draymond Green punched Poole in the face after the two got into a heated argument during a preseason practice session. The video footage of the incident was leaked online shortly after and it sent shockwaves across the NBA. Green publicly apologized to Poole during a media interaction, but the relationship the two once shared was strained and no longer the same.

Could that have been the reason why Poole wasn’t himself this season? Did the incident affect his confidence and mindset before heading into the season? Well, fast forward to today, Mike Dunleavy Jr. was recently introduced as the new Golden State Warriors General Manager following the departure of Bob Myers. While speaking to the media, he addressed Jordan Poole’s contract situation and said, “With his contract extension, we’re planning on having him here for four more years at least.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. seems to have all the confidence in Poole to turn things around. What about Dub Nation though? Here is what some of the fans tweeted:

There’s no doubt that Poole is a highly talented basketball player. He can shoot the three balls, has great handles and can initiate offense for himself whenever the team needs him to. He just needs to regain his confidence and let the game come to him instead of rushing things, and everything will fall into place.

Poole would want to forget this season as soon as possible and will have only one thing on his mind heading into the next – to prove all his doubters wrong.
