Ahead of the NBA Finals clash between the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics, 3-time World Champion and Volume podcast host Draymond Green (“The Draymond Green Show”) shared his thoughts on the coming games with Colin Cowherd. They discussed how the Golden State Warriors are preparing to face the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, Kevin Durant leaving for the Brooklyn Nets, the criticism about Steph Curry’s past playoff performances, and shutting down Luka Doncic and the Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.

Draymond Green was named to the All-Defensive Second Team for the 2021-22 season, but the Golden State Warriors star believes he should have been named to the First Team. The Warriors forward claimed that he felt eluded since he was a Defensive Player of the Year favorite before suffering a back injury in January and was only named to the Second Team. Despite the fact that he only appeared in 46 games, he feels his contributions to the team are worthy of an All-Defensive First Team selection.

He gets ready for a face-off against the reigning Defensive Player of the Year winner, Marcus Smart for the Finals showdown beginning on Thursday at the Chase Center, home of the warriors. Green stated his thoughts on Marcus Smart: “That is a guy I have a lot of respect for. To see him coming into his own and to see him once again looking like the Marcus Smart that came out of Oklahoma State, that had so much promise, to see him back playing that way and at that level, has been fun to watch”. Green was named the DPOY in 2017 and was selected to the All-defensive team 7 times but this year he is just not happy as he thinks he got snubbed out of the All-Defensive First Team.

He refuses to believe that there were 5 players better than him who excelled defensively. As he quotes “When I look at the first team, I am not sure I can pinpoint, definitely not five guys that had a better defensive season than me. And there are no (games played) requirements (for All-Defensive voting). There is not some amount that you have to play in. If there was an amount that you had to play, then I would be an idiot sitting here and saying that”. Marcus Smart won the Defensive Player of the Year award beating out Mikal Bridges of Phoenix and Rudy Gobert of Utah.

These three were named to the All-Defensive First Team, along with Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and Memphis’ Jarrett Jackson Jr. Green was named to the second team alongside Bam Adebayo of Miami, Jrue Holiday of Milwaukee, Matisse Thybulle of Philadelphia, and Boston’s Robert Williams III. Five first-team ballots and 24 second-team votes went to the Golden State’s power forward. Defeating the team with the DPOY in the championship game would be a consolation prize for Draymond Green.
