After such a good start to the season, the Portland Trail Blazers have lagged behind in recent weeks. Damian Lillard, though, is not to blame for their decline in performance. Lillard has been blazing all guns and is on an offensive fire. He scored 60 points against the Utah Jazz only last week. On Wednesday night, he once again demonstrated how much above the rest of the league he is currently in the ability to put the ball in the basket from everywhere on the field.

Lillard took possession of the ball on the inbounds play with 0.6 seconds remaining in the third quarter and the Portland Trail Blazers trailing the Memphis Grizzlies by six points, 90-84. Lillard then nonchalantly swished the ball from the opposing free-throw line. Fans didn’t anticipate anything other than a basket when Dame played like the fireball he has been in recent weeks

Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks were each named player of the week for their respective performances. With averages of 42.3 points and 7.7 assists on 63.2% shooting in a 2-1 week for the Blazers, Portland’s star player dominated during Week 15. Lillard led Portland to a victory over Utah on Wednesday, tallying a season-high 60 points on 21 of 29 shooting.

Over the course of 37 games this season, the 32-year-old guard has averaged 30.1 points, 7.3 assists, and 4.0 rebounds. In the rankings of the Western Conference, the Blazers (23-26) are now ranked 11th

The Grizzlies had a record of 32-18 before heading into the game against Portland. They even had an 8-game winning streak at home. Given his recent form there was fear that Lillard would end the Grizzlies streak and he did exactly that. Lillard scored 40 points for the second match in a row and for the ninth time this season. For the Trail Blazers, he made five 3-pointers and converted 15 of 16 of his free-throw attempts.

In the first game of a three-game road trip, the Trail Blazers picked up their fourth victory in five contests. For the Grizzlies, who have dropped six of their last seven games, Ja Morant scored 32 points, handed out 12 assists, and grabbed nine rebounds. Desmond Bane added 17 points to the board. While Jaren Jackson Jr. contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks for Memphis. On Thursday, the Grizzlies will travel to Cleveland to play the Cavaliers. Lillard, however, will aim to beat the Wizards on Friday in order to extend the run.
