Lakers fans taunt Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks after Game 6 blowout
Grizzlies' Dillon Brooks in Game 6 vs Lakers of First Round Playoffs
Dillon Brooks has been trying to get under LeBron James’ skin since Game 2 of the first-round playoff series between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Grizzlies forward has been talking trash to James on the court and in the media, calling him “old” and challenging him to score 40 points on him. James has mostly ignored Brooks’ words, saying he would let his game speak for itself.
James, however, did not take the bait. He remained calm and focused on his game, letting his performance speak for itself. He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game in the series, shooting 54.7% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc. The Lakers star led his team to a 125-85 blowout win over the Grizzlies in Game 6, ending their first-round playoff series and sending Brooks and his teammates home.
Brooks, who shot a woeful 31.2% from the field in the series and was even ejected for hitting James below the belt in Game 3, did not stick around to answer questions from the media.
He bolted from the locker room before reporters were allowed to enter, leaving his teammates to explain what went wrong. As he made his way back to his hotel, he was taunted by Lakers fans who chanted “Shanghai Sharks Brooks” and “Real one” at him. It was a long and humiliating walk for Brooks, who had talked a big game but failed to back it up on the court.

LeBron James lets his game do the talking against Dillon Brooks
Brooks may have thought he could rattle James with his words and actions, but he only motivated him to play harder and better. James averaged 27.8 points, 10.2 rebounds and 7.3 assists in the series, shooting 54.8% from the field and 40% from three-point range. He also played stellar defense on Brooks and other Grizzlies players, limiting their effectiveness.
James said he was not bothered by Brooks’ comments or actions, and that he would let his game do the talking. “I’ve had this throughout my career with certain individuals,” James told reporters after Game 3. “It’s easy. It’s literally easy if you want to … ” He then smiled and stopped himself from saying more.
The Lakers will now face either the Sacramento Kings or the Golden State Warriors in the next round, while the Grizzlies will go home after a disappointing end to their season. Brooks may have learned a valuable lesson: don’t mess with LeBron James.
